600 Million People Lack Access To Clean Water

Right now, over 600 million people on this earth do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. The water they do have comes from unprotected sources, and often carries bacteria and diseases such as E. coli, Cholera, and Hepatitis A.

A Four Mile Walk For Water

In many countries it is the job of young girls and women to collect water for their families. This often times means walking 4 miles or more to the nearest water source, and returning with a 40lb jerrycan full of water. And not even clean water. In addition to missing school, young girls and women often face the risk of assault while collecting water.

Water is Hope

Clean water gives a village hope. Young girls are able to attend school instead of spending hours collecting water. Young boys and girls are no longer too sick or weak to attend school. A better education leads to an opportunity to earn a better living. Clean water is the first step to education, to the economy, and to ending poverty. Clean water is hope.

Our History

Born out of Coffee

Three Avocados Charitable Giving was founded in 2016 as the charitable arm of the popular Three Avocados coffee organization. Three Avocados Charitable giving is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

In 2010, founder Joe Koenig visited Uganda for the first time. During that trip, he realized that Uganda needed not only charitable help, but needed an economic boost. He left with a great desire to help, but to help in a different way than had been traditionally done. He discovered that coffee was a significant export of Uganda and began thinking of ways to utilize coffee to create an economic and community impact in Uganda.

Out of that trip, Three Avocados coffee was born. Over the next few years, Joe found that numerous individuals wanted to provide donations, in addition to coffee purchases, to help support the clean water initiatives. Out of that desire, Three Avocados Charitable Giving was born, to provide a simple, clean way for individuals and corporations to provide donations that would go 100% to funding clean water initiatives.

Currently, Three Avocados coffee began with, and still offers, a Uganda Bugisu coffee, from the Bugisu region of Uganda, near the border with Kenya. Kenya's rich coffee history and reputation for quality coffee is reflected in this coffee, with it's bold, earthy flavor.

A Nicaraguan coffee is also offered, coming from the mountains around Matagalpa. Nicaraguan coffee is known for it's rich volcanic soils, which produce amazing coffees with fantastic fruit and floral notes.

Decaffeinated coffee is also available, coming from various locations in Central and South America. These coffees are chosen for their unique characteristics and seasonality.
